The Film

Ko Tawa: Echoes From Our Ancestral Landscapes - is the story of a journey across the landscapes of the Central North Island, into our collective pasts. It is composed of intimate korero and expressions of the emotion that surrounds these taonga and the man who ultimately collected them together, presenting them to the Auckland Museum over 100 years ago.

It is a film that encompasses interview, music, visual landscapes, historical images, and voices from the past. It shows the richness of the taonga and creates a tapestry of experiences for the viewer.

It is inspired mostly, by the people themselves: Individuals who are tied to the landscapes, who love our history and for whom keeping this history alive is the most important thing.

The film will screen for the first time within the Ko Tawa exhibition in early August, 2005. Soon after released and sold on DVD. Extracts from the film will also be shown on these pages.
