Library & Info Centres
The Auckland War Memorial Museum offers a wide range of integrated services both on site and increasingly online for academic researchers, the educational sector, government agencies, libraries and the public.
Through our library services, reading room, catalogues, information centres, document supply services and online collections, we provide easy access to our extensive research and resource material. Use the links in this section to find out more.
This catalogue is a good starting point to see what books, pamphlets, and recent serials are held in the Museum Library. All of the manuscripts (e.g. letters, personal papers, diaries) and archives (e.g. business and organisation records), and some of the ephemera, maps and pictorial collections are also included.
The Auckland Museum Library houses one of New Zealand's largest collections of heritage material, manuscripts and archives, photographs, paintings and drawings. The depth of material available for use by the general public as well as academics and researchers, is highly valued throughout New Zealand and internationally. The Library also provides a growing collection of electronic resources.
Auckland Museum also hosts three information centres specialising in the War Memorial, Maori & Pacific and Natural History galleries. These centres are an extension of the Museum's Library, and are available to the public for the purposes of study and research. They also provide more in-depth information on some of the exhibits displayed in the Museum.
Auckland War Memorial Museum publishes two scholarly serials as part of its statutory role to advance and promote cultural and scientific scholarship and research.
If you want to know more about Library Services, what we do, or how we can help you, please feel free to contact our staff.
The Museum offers an image orders service, where rights allow. For image orders of objects and documentary items, particularly for publishing purposes, please allow at least 3 months’ lead time, to enable us to schedule the acclimitisation or removal from display, cleaning, photography and copyright and other clearances.
Where a suitable digital image already exists, we aim to fulfil orders within 3 weeks, because of complexity of copyright and other clearances. To purchase copies of images please contact the Museum Library and download the order form below.
