The last LATE in the Seven Deadly Sins series examined the very human motivation of greed versus need in a world of finite resources with moderator Finlay Macdonald and guests. Guests confessed their sins of avarice in our confessional and saw Shakespeare's take on greed.

Is lazy thinking and blind subscription to the status quo diminishing New Zealand's chances of success in turbulent world? Or should we all just slow down and relax? This LATE turned the panel discussion over to Ben Hurley and his comedian colleagues Chris Brain and Irene Pink, and political commentator Martyn ‘Bomber’ Bradbury to discuss sloth.

LATE at the Museum’s season of sin launched riotously to a full house with 500 guests enjoying a panel discussion that moved from humorous observations to sobering truths about envy. Audience interaction was rife with questions, responses and confessions interrupting the proceedings.

Wrath

Join moderator Finlay Macdonald and panellists Professor Michael Corballis, Dr Janet Fanslow and Ruia Aperahama as they debate whether New Zealand is an angry society and if so, why? Our media and our prison population tell us we are. Our national sports are physical and often violent. Do we celebrate wrath and its corollary anger? Then enjoy performances from Songs from the Inside artists Maisey Rika and Ruia Aperahama followed by a new collaboration from sonic band Gang Violins and beat poet Shane Hollands.

Pride

Having restored our national pride with a Rugby World Cup victory, what else can we justifiably be proud of – and will it come before a fall? We examine tall poppy syndrome and the country's humble heroes in our panel discussion led by Wallace Chapman and featuring Independent Maori Statutory Board chief executive Brandi Hudson. Tall poppy Taika Waititi's 18-minute short film Tama Tu will screen in the Atrium followed by great entertainment co-curated by Charles Royal and Anton Blank.

Gluttony

The PM's science advisor Professor Sir Peter Gluckman, academic and weight loss industry-critic Dr Andrew Dickson and one of New Zealand's best known authorities on food Ray McVinnie, debate the virtues and vices of our relationships with food with moderator Richard Pamatatau.

Entertainment on the night featured a performance from the New Zealand Dance Company, choreographed by Artistic Director Shona McCullagh, followed by a live performance from Princess Chelsea including songs from her debut album Lil' Golden Book.

Lust 


WAS HELD ON
THURS 6 SEPT 2012

With all the promise of spring in the air it's a fitting time to examine lust. Moderator Russell Brown will lead the panel in a discussion about the heady triumvirate: sex, deviancy and power. The night's live entertainment features a performance from Birds of Paradise – part-burlesque, part-romance, part-comedy – in the museum galleries. Finish your night with a guided 'Lustful Tour' of the museum with collection technician Siren Deluxe.
