LATE 03 Great Kiwi Myths

Whaddarwe now? Are we really a nation of can-do, innovative, kid friendly, outdoorsy people? Or are we crime-ridden, unproductive, credit-junky, obesity-epidemic dreamers? Passionate or purposeless?

This country’s greatest musical dynasty, Neil and Liam Finn, perform an acoustic set together at LATE 03 on Thursday, 2 April. The LATE at the Museum event also features a panel discussion exploring Great Kiwi Myths.

New Zealand’s most recognisable cultural export, Neil Finn and his bands Split Enz and Crowded House achieved success on an international scale. In 1993 Neil was bestowed the Order of the British Empire for his contribution to Kiwi music.

Neil’s son Liam followed in his father’s musical footsteps, first with his band Betchadupa, then with his critically acclaimed solo album I'll Be Lightning. At last year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards Liam won Best Male Solo Artist.

Alongside a performance by Neil and Liam, the LATE event features a panel discussion moderated by Finlay Macdonald will be asking his guests Oscar Kightley Greg McGee, Dr Cindy Kiro and Hamish Campbell WHADDARWE NOW? Are we really a nation of can-do, innovative, kid friendly, outdoorsy people? Or are we crime-ridden, unproductive, credit-junky, obesity-epidemic dreamers? Passionate or purposeless?

LATE 03 is the third in an on-going series entitled WHADDARYA NOW? The series of six takes its cue from former Governor General Sir Paul Reeves, who challenged Auckland Museum to celebrate identity as a dynamic, rather than settled state.
