Weird & Wonderful Skinks GeckosButterfly trays in Weird & Wonderful

The Weird & Wonderful Discovery Centre is a place you can explore the sometimes weird, but always wonderful, world of nature.  Find out about the evolution of humans and other life on earth.

Weird & Wonderful isn't like any ordinary museum gallery, it's a place where you are encouraged to look and touch, to listen and feel. It's a place of extraordinary exploration and dazzling discovery, a place where you can learn and have a lot of fun too!

Get up close and personal with all sorts of living creatures.  See and smell crawling cockroaches, see and feel squirming mealworms. You'll also find fresh and saltwater tanks brimming with river and sea life, gorgeous green geckos, shiny skinks and many other fabulous live plants and animals. Open drawers crammed full of bugs and birds, mammals and molluscs. You can touch a real elephant tooth, examine fossils and all sorts of bones or just sit back and read a book!

If you want to know more about something, just ask one of our friendly and knowledgeable staff. Whether you want to identify a strange spider or find out what the frogs had for lunch, our staff are there to help.

All groups visiting Weird and Wonderful on a school day must be booked.  Your booking will include an introduction from a Weird and Wonderful staff member, who will remain in the centre with you for the hour you are booked.

Please note:  This is the one gallery which is not included in a general tour.
