Awards Premier and Winners

Thanks to everyone who submitted entries to Auckland Museum’s I AM Making Movies competition. The Lifelong Learning team were thrilled to have received entries from so many Auckland students. Huge thanks to you all and your teachers, also your parents and friends who have supported your creative efforts.

A very successful Premier Awards Evening for the inaugural I AM Making Movies was held on Sunday 20 June 2010 at the Auckland Museum Event Centre.

Stars of the ceremony included the very professional Pt England school kapa haka group,
Mika X (Master of Ceremonies) and Keisha Castle-Hughes (awards presenter) – as well as our wonderful judges. The real stars were the students, supported by their parents and teachers, who accepted their prizes with dignity, grace, and fantastic speeches. We can’t wait to do it all again.

The digital prizes awarded for this competition, have been kindly donated by Sony New Zealand Limited.

Judges' comments:
"This film was chosen because of its production values, its clever script, its use of sound effects and soundtrack but especially for its idea and concept. A Waste of a Young Man takes an original approach to filmmaking depicting the outcomes of war through the use of dream sequences and by reversing the film footage to describe the events that led to the demise of our hero. It was this clever idea and unique approach to filmmaking that made it the obvious Supreme Award winner."

Supreme Winner, JorjaSupreme Winner

A Food Fashion Show
By; Jorja
Rutherford College

Prize:  A Sony HDRCX110EB AVCHD MS Handycam for your school plus a $30 iTunes voucher for each team member (maximum of 4 vouchers per group, per winning entry)

Judges' comments:
"... Jorja's creative outside the box approach to the competition's criteria with the fusion of stop motion animation and the idea of how technology has changed food packaging over time. With the use of text and a food inspired fashion show accompanied by a jitter bug soundtrack, Jorja has touched on the growing concerns surrounding the issues of our everyday domestic waste in a fun and entertaining short film. The comparison with the past and present was cleverly executed with the use of props, sound and text by making you experience a little of both worlds."
