Behind the scenes, we have a hard working team of professionals that ensure the smooth running of every facet of the Museum.

From collections management, to acquisitions, to gallery management, , marketing, corporate sponsorship, venue hire, fundraising ... the list goes on and on.

All of these people are vital to the performance of the Museum. We are a non-profit organisation, and so the corporate team ensures that we perform day in and day out for all our national and international visitors, as well as the community at large.

AUCKLAND WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM ACT 1996

In 1996, the Auckland War Memorial Museum Act, transferred the assets and Governance of the Auckland Institute and Museum to the Auckland Museum Trust Board. Paramount amongst their responsibilities is the trusteeship and guardianship of the Museum, and its extensive collections of treasures and scientific materials.

TAUMATA-A-IWI

The Taumata-a-Iwi acts in a trustee role in representing the interests of Maori and advising the Trust Board on matters of custodial policy and guardianship of taonga (Maori ancestral treasures) and any whakapakoko, uru moko and koiwi (indigenous human remains) held by the Museum.

GOVERNANCE POLICIES

One of the Museum Trust Board's duties is to establish broad lines of policy for the guidance of the director. Significant intended policies are published in the Annual Plan.

ANNUAL PLAN & REPORT

The Museum publishes its Draft Annual Plan for its July - June year in January. Public submissions to the Draft Annual Plan are invited and are heard in February. In November each year the Museum publishes an Annual Report which reports against the performance targets and measures set out in the Annual Plan.
