Te Ao Hurihuri

Explore the significance of tangata whenua and issues of personal and cultural identity.

Who are you? Where do you belong? What makes you special? How does the past make you who you are today?

Journey with our Maori educators back in time to the Pacific to explore how and why Maori came to Aotearoa. Then discover how we applied our knowledge of the natural world to technology.

In the second hour, you will explore the significance of three iconic taonga - Hotunui, the pataka and the waka taua. You will also get to handle some objects that feature in the gallery.

This forms the base of Te Ao Hurihuri. However, parts of the programme can be adapted to accommodate the particular learning needs/foci of individual schools. Let us know what you need and we will endeavour to deliver.

This programme is assisted by LEOTC, funded by the Ministry of Education.
