MAORI CULTURAL PERFORMANCEThe Auckland Museum is the only venue in Auckland that provides authentic Maori cultural performances on a daily basis. Our outstanding Maori cultural group perform every day with performances that will introduce you to the story of Aotearoa through traditional song and dance. ![]() FAZIOLI PIANO RECITAL SERIESIn 2008, Auckland War Memorial Museum is proud to present another exciting series of Fazioli Piano Recitals with leading international artists. This year will see top pianists from Germany, Great Britain, Russia and Lithuania performi ng on Auckland Museum’s magnificent Fazioli Piano. ![]() VOLCANO PROGRAMMEThis year the programme will focus on how scientists find out about geological processes, including our volcanoes and our ability to predict their behaviour. Three lectures will cover a combination of the latest techniques and technologies using examples both locally and internationally. Field trips will take you to Rangitoto and a give you opportunities to explore parts of a lava cave under Three Kings. MEMBERS EVENTSFriends of Auckland War Memorial Museum or the Auckland Museum Institute, is both a membership organisation and learned society. The Institute publicises the Museum and supports it in many ways by raising funds, arranging lectures, directing field trips, encouraging research and publications, and hosting social occasions. TOURING EXHIBITIONSThe unique exhibition of Ko Tawa is showcasing a selection of 28 ancestral treasures or 'taonga' from the collection of Captain Gilbert Mair (1843 - 1923). The world famous Vaka Moana exhibition unveils the spectacular story of the exploration and peopling of the vast Pacific Ocean. ![]() GUIDED TOURSThe tour profiles the Museum's most important and fascinating objects, unravelling their stories and explaining their significance to New Zealand. From the Museum's pre-eminent colleciton of Maori and Pacific treasures, to our original World War Two aircraft, this is a highlights tour of not-to-be-missed national and international treasures. ![]() AUCKLAND DOMAIN SCULPTURE WALKThe Museum is located in the city’s oldest and most popular park, the Auckland Domain. This expansive area is a respite from the rush and bustle of the city, just minutes away. Sculptures by some of New Zealand's leading artists, have been installed as part of a sculpture walk in Auckland Domain. Their scale models, known as maquettes, are on display at the Museum.
