Auckland Museum hosts three key information centres specialising in aspects of the Museums expertise and collection areas. These areas are an extension of the Museums Library, and are available to the public for the purposes of study and research. They also provide more in-depth information on some of the exhibits displayed in the Museum:
Te Kakano is the name of the Maori and Pacific Information Centre located on the ground floor in the Maori Gallery. Te Kakano provides visitors with electronic access to the Museumís extensive Maori and Pacific taonga (treasures) collection. The centre aims to strengthen the link between Maori and Pacific people and their cultural heritage.
The Armoury is the Museum's military information centre, providing a rich resource for the study of New Zealandís military history. You can spend time conducting in-depth research of New Zealandís experience of war or tracing your ancestorís military service.
The Museumís Natural History Information Centre can be found in the Origins Gallery, on the first floor. The centre provides the visitor with books, maps and computer access to information about the Museumís natural science exhibits, collections and databases as well as New Zealandís unique natural environment.
