The Auckland Museum Institute is the Auckland Branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand; a relationship that dates back to 1867. As a result the Institute is able to offer members opportunities to attend important events and hear from highly-regarded local and international speakers through such events as the annual RSNZ Distinguished Speaker series.
Special offer to Auckland Museum Institute Members
The publication of the book ‘Seeing Further – the Story of Science & the Royal Society’, edited by Bill Bryson, coincides with the 350th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Society of London. The book is edited and introduced by Bill Bryson and has chapters by a wide range of well-known authors - from Richard Dawkins to Margaret Atwood – across a number of disciplines, each reflecting a personal view of a key moment, individual or topic in the story of science. It ends with an eye on the future as the Royal Society’s current President, Martin Rees, outlines his vision for science over the next 50 years.
The book is lavishly illustrated from the Society’s rich archive and is available from book retailers in New Zealand. (ISBN13:9780007302567: HarperCollins NZ Ltd.)
