The Museum´s pictorial collections are truly world class. Most of New Zealands greatest photographers are represented here, while amateur albums of family snaps and soldiers mementos are a hidden treasure for descendants and social historians.
Consisting of photographs, paintings and drawings, these collections are accessible via the Library on the top floor. Regularly changing exhibitions which draw upon these resources are displayed in the Pictorial Gallery throughout the year.
The Polynesian photograph collection in particular is one of the most complete collections of Pacific ´pre-arrival´ photography and imagery to be found anywhere in the world.
Parts of the collection are only available by prior appointment, and with professional help. Please contact the Museum Library for more information, or come and visit it yourself.
