Una Garlick
Una Garlick became the first woman member of the Auckland Camera Club in 1921, and during the 1920s won many of their monthly competitions, and their annual medal in 1926. She had photographs accepted at international salons, and became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain.
Her works can be divided into some principal themes and subjects. Her Boat Harbour series was taken over a number of years, and changes from soft hazy, truly pictorialist treatment to a sharper, more defined image in later years. Cornwall Park, Rangitoto and images of Maori women are the other significant groupings in the works held by Auckland Museum. |
