It is funded solely from Aucklands seven local councils, known as Territorial Local Authorities (councils) of Auckland; Auckland City, North Shore City, Franklin, Papakura, Waitakere, Rodney and Manukau (councils) of Auckland; Auckland City, North Shore City, Franklin, Papakura, Waitakere, Rodney and Manukau, and from revenue generated by the Museum itself.
