There is a huge range of imaginative and engaging activities planned for all the family, so come along and enjoy winter in your warm and much loved Museum. ![]() VERA DIKA TALK: RECONSIDERING THE NOSTALGIA FILMThe impulse to return to past images and styles has become a staple feature of filmmaking, but is practiced in different ways by various filmmakers. In this talk Vera Dika discusses Todd Haynes' Far From Heaven (2002), Douglas Sirk's All That Heaven Allows (1954), and Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Ali: Fear Eats The Soul (1974), comparing their methods in re-working the source material, and the effects created. ![]() VOLCANO PROGRAMMEThis year the programme will focus on how scientists find out about geological processes, including our volcanoes and our ability to predict their behaviour. Three lectures will cover a combination of the latest techniques and technologies using examples both locally and internationally. Field trips will take you to Rangitoto and a give you opportunities to explore parts of a lava cave under Three Kings. |
