In 2008, Auckland War Memorial Museum is proud to present another exciting series of Fazioli Piano Recitals with leading international artists. This year will see top pianists from Germany, Great Britain, Russia and Lithuania performi ng on Auckland Museum’s magnificent Fazioli Piano, with a diverse series of programmes including works by Shostakovich, Beethoven, Liszt, Rachmaninov and Chopin.

Mûza Rubackyté

Described as “An artist of phenomenal powers” and “A pianistic phenomenon . . . one of the leading pianists of our time”, Mûza Rubackyté is our first international artist for the year. A graduate of the Vilnius and Moscow Conservatories and now resident in Paris, Rubackyté was honoured along with the late Sir Yehudi Menuhin with Lithuania’s Legion of Merit for extraordinary musical achievement. Rubackyté’s musical programme will include works by Shostakovich, Bach-Busoni, Beethoven and Liszt. |

Martin Roscoe

Martin Roscoe is a versatile musician who flourishes in performance, whether as a concerto soloist, recitalist or chamber musician endeavouring always to serve the composer and the music. His enduring popularity and solid reputation are built on a deeply thoughtful musicianship which is allied to an easy rapport with audiences and fellow musicians alike. Roscoe has held positions at the Royal Academy of Music and, now, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Auckland Museum is proud to host Martin Roscoe in a wonderful concert of the piano works of Beethoven. |

Bernd Glemser

Germany’s youngest professor of music in 1989, Bernd Glemser has presented concerts throughout the world from Chile to China, where in 1996 he was the first Western musician to perform nation-wide live on television. His exceptionally broad repertoire, ranging from baroque to modern, makes him one of today’s elite pianists. Credited with breathtaking virtuosity, his extreme poetic sensibility is also highly praised. His concerts are regularly broadcast worldwide. Bernd Glemser will present a programme of Bach, Bach-Busoni, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov. |

Alexander Melnikov

Alexander Melnikov has earned a reputation as one of the finest Russian pianists of his generation. His past engagements have included performances with the Russian National Orchestra and Tokyo Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus and Philadelphia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. He appears regularly at the world’s leading concert halls and festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein, Neuhaus and Gstaad. In this finale to Auckland Museum’s Concert series, Alexander Melnikov will present works by Schumann, Scriabin and Prokofiev. |
