Auckland Museum pays tribute to a Great New Zealander
On January 11th 2008, Auckland Museum’s Chairperson David Hill added the Museum’s tribute to the great New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and on behalf of the board and staff expressed heartfelt sorrow his passing. He said that “Sir Edmund was an extraordinary New Zealander, and a great friend of the Museum. We were proud to have worked with him and his family on the exhibition, and have been grateful for his continued support.”
Auckland Museum produced the international exhibition Sir Edmund Hillary: Everest and Beyond in 2003 which travelled to the United States, Australia and Japan. The exhibition gave visitors an insight into Sir Edmund’s life work and helped them celebrate the life and achievements of this outstanding national hero.
