Dare to find out when you step inside Metazoa – an extraordinary life-sized interactive video game. Wearing an animal hat that responds to digital sensors in the gallery you’ll create playful images and trigger unexpected sounds as you evolve through a series of forms...and maybe back again.

Fazioli International Piano Recital Series

Auckland Museum is proud to present another exciting series of Fazioli piano recitals with leading international artists. This year will see top pianists from Germany, Great Britain, Russia and Lithuania performing on Auckland Museum’s magnificent Fazioli piano, with a diverse series of programmes including works by Shostakovich, Beethoven, Liszt, Rachmaninov and Chopin.

Daily at 10.30 and 2 pm

The tour profiles the Museums most important and fascinating objects, unravelling their stories and explaining their significance to New Zealand. From the Museums pre-eminent colleciton of Maori and Pacific treasures, to our original World War Two aircraft, this is a highlights tour of not-to-be-missed national and international treasures.

An interactive evening exploring traditional foods and ingredients of the tropical Pacific in keeping with the Pasifika theme of Tuna (Common Polynesian word for eel) with your hosts Virgil Evetts and Janneen Love.

The New Oceania

This is a rich chronicle of Albert Wendt’s life and times, directed by Shirley Horrocks. Wendt has written many novels (including two turned into feature films) and is the forerunner of today’s renaissance in Pacific arts in New Zealand – represented in this documentary by dance group Black Grace, film-maker Sima Urale, painter John Pule and rap artist Tha Feelstyle, among others.

See Pacific short film at its best at this annual screening showcasing Pacific Island stories and cultures. The films celebrate the talents of a range of contemporary Pacific filmmakers and Pollywood is a fantastic opportunity to share in their visions in short-film about Pacific culture and experience.

Hinaki Workshop
Join Artist/maker Loloma Andrews in creating your very own hinaki (eel trap) using traditional techniques to create original sculptural work. Your very own eel trap can either be a bag or a lamp stand. You decide!
