Ugly Dolls in the
museum collection

These dolls were beautiful once. Now they have cracked faces and loose wigs! Each sign of damage is a reminder of those who loved them dearly and the fun they used to have playing with these toys from the past.

The curators and conservators try to touch the dolls as little as possible, holding them in gloved hands and taking care to prevent further damage to the fragile treasures of bygone childhoods.
