Arthur Yates immigrated to New Zealand from England in the 1870s and opened his first shop in 1883 in Auckland. A wide range of Yates seeds are available today, however, stands like this one have long been replaced with more functional, less decorative versions.
These two cases were donated by Yates New Zealand Ltd to the Museum.
