The Art of Packing
These snugly wrapped objects are testament to the packer’s art, but they don’t always survive! Margaret mackean-Taylor, who taught museum staff how to pack so beautifully, also had them test the strength of their work by throwing various packed items off the museum roof to see if they could survive such a fall. The theory was that if they could survive that, they could survive nearly anything transport by sea or air could throw at them. But don’t worry – the tests were only carried out with dummy packages!
