Greek Tragedy
You’ve seen our companions preening in all their glory at the front of the museum. They all had major conservation work done on them, but we haven’t been quite so lucky. We’ve been knocked around, moved around, stored in the sunny roof conservatory, baking, cracking and crumbling. Bits of us have been lost or thrown away over the years. We’ve been patched up badly with Araldite ... honestly, it isn’t easy being a copy. At least our classical originals were made of stone and marble. We’re hollow so we break easily, and even our metal armature is rusting in places. We need intensive care, but the conservators are too busy. Maybe someone out there could take us on? Let’s face it, is this any way to treat the generous gift of Thomas Russell, who got us all here in one piece from Europe over a hundred years ago?
