Intensive CareJust like humans, the objects in a museum get sick, catch bugs, have accidents. So, as well as all the other functions it performs, the museum is also part hospital. The diseases might be mould or rot, and the bugs might be real ones such as borer and silverfish, but the basic idea is the same – get well soon. The conservators often have to find new ways to mend things. In fact, adapting methods and products first developed for medical science is a good place to start, since we share the same motto – “first do no harm”.
