Taxonomy: the practice and science of classification ... in other words, the proper scientific names for things. Take this “snakestar” from the museum’s extensive collection of dry invertebrates. If you look it up in the book of marine taxonomy, you’ll find the correct label is Pectinuramaculata. All living organisms have their own taxonomies – it’s the language of science.
