Dinosaurs Education Kit

Education Programmes

Palaeontology: Dinosaurs and fossils, Years 1-6
This programme supports the T-Rex Called Sue temporary exhibition. Palaeontologists provide much of the knowledge we have about dinosaurs and fossils. Come and try some of the things they do and see some of the objects palaeontologists have found.

This is an educator-led session held in a learning centre.

Dinosaurs Education Kit
Suitable for Years 1-10. This three-part Education kit provides guidelines for learning about Dinosaurs in the Museum galleries.

The Background Notes explore a range of dinosaur-related Museum spaces including New Zealand Dinosaurs and other large mesozoic reptiles in the Origins Gallery.

Fact Sheets
The tuatara is the last representative on Earth of a group of reptiles that appeared at the same time the dinosaurs were evolving. Our Natural History Information Centre provides a number of fact sheets for school students, researchers and the general public to access.

Natural History Collection
Auckland Museum protects and cares for approximately 1.5 million natural history specimens in collections that have been built over 150 years. The focus of the collections is northern New Zealand, but they also contain material from the rest of the country, the South West Pacific and other parts of the world.

Natural History Information Centre
This information resource supports all natural histroy galleries. It has videos, books, computer resources, handling objects and more

Exhibitions

T-Rex named Sue
This major touring exhibition is due to open mid November in time for end of year excursions and will be available through to the end of March 2009. Programmes will be run to support the exhibition in Term 1 2009.

Origins
this gallery outlines the geologic history of New Zealand. It has casts of dinsosaur skeletons and fossils from that period of time. It also has the Natural History Information Centre. For those wanting to see a Moa or a Kiwi this is the starting point.

Weird & Wonderful
one of two children's discovery centres that encourage hands-on learning for younger children and families. The focus of this one is Natural History.
