
Auckland Museum is proud to present the 2009 International Fazioli Piano Recital Series, now in its third triumphant year.
Top artists from around the globe will perform on the Museum’s stunning Fazioli piano, with a varied and exciting programme including works by Brahms, Prokofiev, Schubert and Debussy. Book early so to be sure not to miss this special series of events.

Cedric Tiberghien
Friday 3 April, 8pm
Cedric Tiberghien is one of the most exciting artists to emerge from France in recent years. He is currently receiving exceptional exposure in the United Kingdom as one of the lead artists in the BBC’s New Generation Artists scheme. He has been a prize-winner at several major piano competitions, culminating with the 1st Prize at the prestigious Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris in 1998. Since then his career has continuously gained momentum, with appearances in some of the world’s most prestigious halls, including London’s Wigmore Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Emmanuel Despax

Now resident in England, Emmanuel Despax spent five years at the prestigious Menuhin School, where he was given numerous opportunities to appear in concerts, most notably at the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, St. John's Smith Square and the Wigmore Hall. In 2002 Emmanuel gained a scholarship to the Royal College of Music where he was awarded the RCM’s most prestigious prize, the Tagore Gold Medal which was presented to him by HRH the Prince of Wales. He has played in the London Festival Orchestra’s Virtuoso Pianists series at Cadogan Hall, with the Arion Orchestra at St James’s Piccadilly; in Europe he has given recitals at La Roque d’Antheron in France and the Fazioli Auditorium in Italy.

Piers Lane

London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a flourishing international career which has taken him to more than forty countries. In the past few years, his engagements have included concerto performances at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall; a three-recital series called Metamorphoses at London’s Wigmore Hall; the Opening recital of the Sydney International Piano Competition; concerto appearances with the London Philharmonic, City of Birmingham and Halle orchestras among others and festival appearances at Bard and Newport in the USA, Bergen, Como Autumn Music in Italy, Prague Spring, The Ruhr Klavier-Festival and Schloss vor Husum in Germany, La Roque d”Antheron and Paris Chopin in France and Valdemossa Chopin in Majorca. Highlights in the 08-09 season include his debut with the Warsaw Philharmonic and a recital for Wigmore Hall’s London Pianoforte Series.

Noriko Ogawa

Noriko Ogawa has achieved considerable renown in Europe, America and in her native Japan where she is a national celebrity. Following her success at Leeds International Piano Competition, Ogawa gained a devoted following. Ogawa records regularly for the BBC and appears with all the major UK, European, Japanese and US orchestras. Amongst the leading conductors she has worked with are Charles Dutoit, Hans Vonk, Alexander Lazarev, Libor Pesek, Leonard Slatkin, Vernon Handley, Tadaaki Otaka, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Kasper de Roo and Günther Herbig. Ogawa is also renowned as a recitalist and chamber musician; concerts have taken her all over the world and included a tour of Japan with the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Ensemble and the leader of the Vienna Philharmonic, Rainer Honeck.
