2010 Early Childhood Programmes

Visiting the Stevenson Discovery Centre, Weird & Wonderful, or booking an educator-led programme, is a great way to introduce young learners to Auckland Museum, exposing them to new educational experiences in a safe and stimulating environment.

Fridays are reserved for Early Childhood Education bookings for the following programmes. Self guided visits to Weird & Wonderful and other Museum galleries are welcomed at all times throughout the year during normal open hours.

 Tala Pasifika

Tala Pasifika

Tala Pasifika uses multimedia, storytelling, objects, images, movement and dance to examine aspects of Pasifika identity.

Matariki

Focusing on three days in the lunar calendar during Matariki, each day explores the realm of a different atua (diety) with hands-on activities related to fishing, hunting, planting, food gathering and other aspects of community life.

Searching for Minibeasts

This programme looks at the taxonomy of insects and arachnids, with a particular emphasis on numeracy and literacy.

  Weird & Wonderful

Weird & Wonderful

Weird & Wonderful focuses on natural history, giving children the chance to get close to live creatures such as insects and native lizards, while discovering for themselves the diversity of the natural world. Trained facilitators help the accompanying adults enjoy the experience with the kids in their care.
