The Auckland Museum offers a comprehensive choice of programmes for primary and intermediate students. Our Fixed Date Programmes are only available at set times of the year. Many others are available By Request throughout the year.

Insects and Arachnids
Term 1 15 February – 12 March
Using live and preserved specimens, the life cycles, habitats and behaviours of tiny organisms are explored, along with their importance to the ecosystems they inhabit.

Volcanoes
Terms 1 & 4 8 March – 1 April and 25 October – 12 November
Exploring the volcanic heritage of Tamaki Makaurau with hands-on geological activities and discussion about the effects of living within a volcanic landscape.

ANZAC
Terms 1 & 2 15 March – 2 April and 19 April – 7 May
Based in the Museum’s War Memorial galleries, the ANZAC programme is based on World War I. Using drama and site interpretation, some of the ethical issues and consequences of war are explored.
Best suited to Years 5 to 8.

Tala Pasifika
Terms 2 & 3 3 May – 21 May and 23 August – 10 September
Tala Pasifika uses multimedia, storytelling, objects, images, movement and dance to examine aspects of Pasifika identity. This programme is led by Guest Educators who are able to share with students their academic knowledge, as well as their cultural knowledge about their own identity.
Best suited to Years 1 to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 to 8. This programme can also be tailored to Early Childhood groups.

Matariki
Term 2 24 May – 2 July
Focusing on three days in the lunar calendar during Matariki, each day explores the realm of a different atua (diety) with hands-on activities related to fishing, hunting, planting, food gathering and other aspects of community life.
Best suited to Years 1 to 8. This programme can also be tailored to Early Childhood groups.

By Request Programmes
By Request Programmes are available at any time of the school year. Collectively they provide learning opportunities from Early Childhood Education to Y13 students, and some can be delivered in Te Reo Maori.

Weird & Wonderful is Auckland Museum’s award winning natural history Discovery Centre.
