Auckland Museum can be easily reached from any part of the city, by car or public transport.
The Museum is close to the motorways and the city centre and in easy walking distance from the popular shopping and cafe areas of Parnell Village and Newmarket.
By car and parking
Less than five minutes from Auckland city centre. The Museum underground carpark is available with free parking for up to one hour. Free Parking for up to three hours is also available in the domain carpark, along with disabled spaces. Find out more
Travelling by public transport
Free bus: Newmarket – Museum – CBD
From Tuesday Sept 27 through to Sunday Oct 24 the Newmarket Business Association is running a free double-decker bus service to help our visitors travel between Newmarket, the Museum and the Auckland CBD.
After the museum you can hop on the bus, take in some of Auckland’s finest vistas, enjoy great shopping in Newmarket – New Zealand’s fashion capital and then travel to the CBD for an art fix at the gallery. See the timetable for details on the two-hour circuit and where you can catch your ride. The bus service will stop at Auckland Museum’s north west corner.

The LINK bus service
The bright green, environmentally friendly LINK bus is one of the smartest ways to get around Auckland's inner city. The LINK ($1.80 per ticket) will take you to Newmarket, Parnell, Queen Street, Ponsonby, Karangahape Road, Auckland Hospital and everywhere in between, every 10 to 15 minutes from 6am and 11.30pm.
The nearest stop to the Museum (5 minutes walk) is on Parnell Road outside the Parnell Community Centre, and slightly further away (15 minutes walk) at Auckland Hospital. |
