Jerry Jaxon is a new acquisition at the Auckland Museum. He is dressed in his Air Force uniform, but his former wardrobe was quite extensive. This once famous puppet had an important role during WW2. His task was to keep people in New Zealand happy! The character of Jerry Jaxon, voiced by George Tollerton, had a regular slot at the Auckland 1ZB studio, and he also travelled around the country making appearances in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Jerry Jaxon was even given an honorary degree while in Dunedin. He was in great demand and featured in numerous advertisements of the period. He made a record at the National Recording Studio and had film appearances too – he was even specially called in to lead the Aid for Britain Campaign after the war ended.
