Smart Talk
Having restored our national pride with a Rugby World Cup victory, what else can we justifiably be proud of – and will it come before a fall? In this day of reality TV do we always vote off the contestants who show too much pride?
We examine tall poppy syndrome and the country's humble heroes in our panel discussion led by Wallace Chapman with guests including Independent Maori Statutory Board Chief Executive, Brandi Hudson; esteemed author, journalist and television presenter, Gordon McLauchlan; and Associate Professor at Massey University, author and expert on the history of religion, Dr Peter Lineham.
Great Music
Enjoy an evening of eclectic entertainment curated by Charles Royal and Anton Blank including:
- Poetry performances from Ora Nui Literary Journal writers Amber Esau, Robert Mokaraka, Munro Te Whata, Rob Tuwhare, Shelley Davis and Natasha Guttenbeil.
- Taonga pūoro performance in Maori Court with Charles Royal, Al Fraser and visuals by Pitch Black collaborator Dan Mace.
- Premier performance of 'Pride: The Deadliest Sin' for baritone, saxophone and piano in the Oceans gallery with Howard McGuire, Charles Royal and Kelly Kahukiwa.
- A vignette of Chris Molloy's new play The Revival.
- A performance from Matariki ambassador, Hinewehi Mohi.
- Screening of Tama Tu, a short film by Taika Waititi.
