Mention in Despatches clasp, Lieutenant Harry Dansey, NZ Pioneer (Maori) Battalion, January 1917.
A special clasp to signify a Mention in Despatches was instituted during WW1, a bronze spray of oak leaves that was worn on the ribbon of the Victory Medal.
Citation published in the London Gazette, 4 January 1917, p262, Recommendation no 439
“For consistent good work and devotion to duty during the period 28th August/2nd October 1916. The officer’s talent for making men work and keeping them going under adverse circumstances have been responsible for most of the great work done by his Company. His knowledge of surveying and his capacity for hard work have rendered him most useful to the Battalion.”
