Photography and filming

Visitors are welcome to use hand-held cameras with flash as well as video recording equipment for private purposes in the galleries unless otherwise indicated. Tripods are not allowed.

Videoing is not allowed during the Māori cultural performance.

Commercial filming and photography

All commercial photography and filming, including media organisations, is only permitted by prior arrangement with our Marketing and Communications department.

The Museum welcomes photography and filming enquiries, however in order to deal with requests in an effective manner, appreciates at least ten working days’ notice with indication of what and where you propose to photograph or film, as well as a clear outline of the context in which the images or video will be reproduced or used, the filming and photography request form can be filled out here.

Filming and photography may not always be possible.

Depending on the nature of your request, charges may apply, or you may be referred on to our Commercial Events department.

Graduations

Due to the large volume of requests regarding graduation photography, and the impact that this has on other visitors, the Museum does not allow graduation photography inside the Museum. External photography is allowed.

Weddings

Auckland Museum often receives requests to use the Museum as a backdrop for wedding photographs. Unless the reception has taken place at the Museum, we cannot allow wedding photos inside the Museum.  External photography is allowed.
