Legendary British actor, comedian, historian and television host Sir Tony Robinson (Blackadder, Time Team), travels to New Zealand in April, to film a brand-new series, Tony Robinson’s Tour Of Duty.
Part of each episode includes a community event, which will bring locals together to share their family’s stories of wartime, display memorabilia and talk about what going to war means to them in the 21st century.
The Auckland community day will take place from 12.30pm to 5.30pm on the North Foyer Steps outside Auckland War Memorial Museum on Saturday 5th April.
The 10-part television series, Tony Robinson’s Tour Of Duty, will air on the History Channel early in 2015 and is part of the channel’s commemoration of the 100 years of service for those who fought for their country, from WWI to the present day. The series focuses on the lives of people who went to war and those who stayed at home, both heroes and ordinary people – and what war means to Kiwis and Aussies, then and now.
Throughout the series, Sir Tony will visit towns in New Zealand and Australia to meet the relatives and friends of those who fought in battle. The New Zealand leg of Sir Tony’s Tour of Duty, will see him travel to Dunedin and Auckland.
