i Ula. Throwing club. i Ula are carved from the rootstock of a hardwood tree. It is intended as a weapon that can be gripped in the hand or thrown in short range distances at assailants. This i Ula is small in size and consists of a lobed head and long tapered adjoining handle. The head has 14 concentric lobes with a collar on its underside and a flanged central dome at its apex. The handle is cylindrical and flares slightly towards the butt end. The butt itself is flat, with a hole drilled at its centre. The i Ula is medium brown in colour and has a glossy patina.
