    Yame ni Matau. Adze blade. Yame ni Matau (the tongue of the adze), is carved from vatu (stone), flat and roughly triangular in shape with an narrow and elliptical cross-section, grey in colour. The Yame ni Matau has a moderately sharp cutting edge and is with a slightly rounded blade. The bevel is steep, and is of a dark grey colour. Yame ni Matau has a high level polish all over, with flaking visible across the poll and butt.
