Ike

Ike. Beater for tapa (barkcloth). Carved from a solid piece of rakau (wood). Long and rectangular in shape with carved handle that flares at butt end. Four flat sides for beating tapa. The length of the beating surfaces on three sides are carved in fine grooves and the fourth carved with only three deep grooves, widely spaced. One end of the ike is carved to grip in the hand comfortably. Dark brown colour.
