Te anibai
Te anibai. Sash ornament. This is one of two sash ornaments that would be worn together across the chest forming an 'X'-like appearance. It is made from three material components: te kora (coconut sennit fibre), te nana (coconut shell discs) and wiin te kua kewe (porpoise teeth). The teeth are medium in size with a cylindrical form. There are two ends to its form, one is of a short point that would be the exposed tooth end and the other is either stubbed, tapered or in some cases reveals an open hollow defining the root end of the tooth. A small perforation has been drilled into the root ends of the wiin te kua kewe where te kora has been threaded through. Up to two te nana discs have been threaded between each individual wiin te kua kewe. The ends of the Neck ornament feature two discs of te nouo (conus; cone shell) and then the kora has been fastened together. A single strand of dark brown human hair has been loosely bound to a small segment of the Neck ornament.
