Te iku. Rasping tool. This is a hand held tool made of three components: the iku (skin) of the baiku (stingray; dasyatidae), a rectangular form of wood for the handle and te kora (coconut sennit cordage). The iku feature small bumps of varied heights in tones of ivory and tan brown. Small incisions have been made along the sides of the iku where golden brown 2-ply te noko has been threaded through. The iku would have been soaked in order for it to be pulled over the rectangular wooden handle and lashed taut with te kora, becoming hard in the form it has been streatched over. The handle is of a mid-brown colour. It features a drilled cavity in the centre near where the edge of the iku finishes. It has te kora threaded through to asisst in the taut of the iku. The exposed area of the handled tapers inwards placing more weight on the iku covered area.
