    Tānoa. Kava bowl. tānoa are used to prepare a beverage made from the crushed up roots of the 'ava (kava) plant and then the beverage is served from here during important ceremonies and meetings. Made from wood, this tānoa has a circular rim and has a thin hairline crack from one side of the tānoa to the middle. This tānoa has eight legs, cylindrical in shape and spaced evenly around the base, one of the lags has been repaired and reattached.

    While the top of the tānoa is smooth and polished, the underside as well as the legs have not been sanded or polished down to a completely smooth surface, evidence of carving is still evident in these areas.
