Austrian born artist and architect Frederick Hundertwasser first visited New Zealand when the Auckland Art Gallery held exhibition of his paintings in 1973. Soon after he adopted New Zealand as his home. Recognised for his revolutionary architectural designs, he also promoted the koru flag design, manifesting a different way of representing New Zealand.
