  • Description

    Kete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) with overlaid dyed-black and dyed-red apuraka (giant swamp taro) akamanea (decoration). Square in shape. The kete has a patara (serrated) rim. Upper border consists of natural coloured triangles facing sideways to the right formed with overlaid dyed-red and dyed-black overlay. The lower border consists of vahanga marama (stepped) pattern with two rows of check pattern both below and above the motif.

    Natural-coloured squares alternate between areas of dyed-black/dyed-red apuraka patterned overlay. Evidence of a tatai (handle) has broken off. Originally gifted in 1932.
