    Pronged spear (English)

  • Description

    Moto Saisai. Pronged spear. Carved from kau (wood), with the ulu ni moto (spearhead) consisting of three long prongs made of kau, approximately 975mm long, extending outwards from the upper area of the tolo ni moto (body of the spear).

    There is lawa ni moto (woven decoration), approximately 575mm long, consisting of magimagi braids (coconut sennit), tali tolu (three-ply), and a magimagi cord, that are wrapped around the upper area of the tolo ni moto and lashed around the base of the prongs. Strips of voivoi (pandanus) are also wrapped around the magimagi. A fine thread of possibly magimagi is wrapped around the upper area of a prong.
