Australian-born Robert Francis Williams of Auckland was employed as a labourer at the time of his enlistment with the Auckland Infantry Regiment. He left New Zealand on 5 April 1917 with the 24th Reinforcements, Auckland Infantry Regiment, A Company, destined for Devonport, England and service on the Western Front.
