Claude Henry Wright, 417144, was born 28 December 1915 at St Heliers, Auckland and educated at Auckland Boys Grammar School and Palmerston North Agricultural College. He enlisted in the Royal New Zealand Air Force on 23 December 1940.
Between December 1941 and February 1943 he was posted to various training schools in New Zealand and Canada. In January 1943 he was awarded his Air Bomber's badge and promoted to Sergeant and Flying Officer. In February 1943 he was posted to England to train on Wellington Bombers at Westcott, Buckinghamshire. In July 1943 he was promoted to Flying Officer.
In June 1943 he transferred to Lancaster Bombers and joined 115 Squadron which operated from Mildenhall, Little Snoring and Witchford. He took part in many raids over Germany and during a raid on the German town of Brunswick on 14 January 1944 his plane failed to return to base and he and his crew were reported missing in action.
