Common. A local to at times co-dominant tree of the understorey and canopy in a cyclone battered Kermadec pohutukawa (Metrosideros kermadecensis) / Kermadec ngaio (Myoporum rapense subsp. kermadecense) / mahoe with karaka (Corynocarpus laevigatus) forest. All specimens seen moderately to severely damaged by Cyclone Bune, however all specimens seen sporting luxuriant basal trunk and branch epicormic growth, and many with flowers and flower buds. Flowers pure white, very distinctly, sweetly perfumed.
