New book by Museum Curator Dr Brian Gill

Date: 2 July 2012

In his book The Owl that Fell from the Sky: Stories of a Museum Curator, Auckland War Memorial Museum’s Land Vertebrates Curator, Dr Brian Gill, takes the reader behind the scenes and into the world of a curious curator.

With its beautiful illustrations and rich stories, mysteries are solved and secrets unveiled. Read about the unlikely tale of the book’s namesake and the significance of an ant’s head to solving the case; the unfortunate fate of an angry young elephant and the quest to discover how a New Zealand heron turned up in a Florence museum.

The author is a fabulous storyteller, and this book will be loved by museum-goers, animal-lovers, and anyone with curiosity about the natural world.

The Owl that Fell from the Sky is available for sale at the Museum or at Awa Press.

Hear an interview with Brian Gill on Radio New Zealand’s Nine to Noon show on Tuesday 10 July 2012.
