This term embodies aspects of the vibrant adn unique cultural traditions of peoples throughout the Pacific Ocean. In this session we trace the dispersal of musical instruments and dance throughout the Pacific and finally to Aotearoa New Zealand. We explore materials, construction techniques, performance and meanings behind some of the instruments and dance repertoire. This is a collection-based learning experience where students play musical instruments, participate in dance and create their own group pareu ‘ura or dance skirt.
