Nau mai ki te whakanui te wa o Matariki - Welcome and join us in celebrating Matariki

Customary practices in pre-European society were based on ancient beliefs about the origin of the universe brought here by the ancestors of Māori.

Our Matariki schools programme will:
  • explore the realms of Tāne-mahuta, Rongo-mā-Tāne and Tangaroa
  • share some traditional Matariki practices associated with celebration, reflection and preparation
  • explore these practices through handling objects, storytelling and make-and-take activities.
