Commercial Analyst and Retail Buyer
A highly-skilled retailologist, Laura joined the Museum in 2012 as Commercial Analyst and Retail Buyer. Currently Acting Retail Manager, she leads, organises and manages our retail team at a time when the Museum is increasingly focussed on achieving commercial self-sufficiency.
As retail opportunities are developed onsite, offsite and online, it is Laura’s job to drive sales and work with others to develop new opportunities, source new products and ensure our retail offering is exciting, creative and successful.
“I decided to make the move to Auckland because this position presented me with an exciting mix of challenges and opportunities. I love working in the museum industry – it’s a great environment and the people you work with are passionate about what they do. I also like how the role allows me to work with colleagues across many different disciplines. I really enjoy engaging with the numerous visitors from all over the world and being part of a unique, knowledge-led tourism experience.”
Favourite artefact: Ferdinand von Hochstetter’s map of Auckland
“I am a lover of maps, so my favourite artefact is Ferdinand von Hochstetter’s map of the Auckland Volcanic Field (1859) from our Library collection. The unusual colours and volcanic features attracted me. It’s a completely different view of Auckland.”
